Chapter 123: 113 What exactly do you want from me (Additional updates, support requested)_1

Finished,

Brother Bi looked up, “Did you get all that recorded?”

“Recorded,” Pei Jinye nodded, having transcribed all of Brother Bi’s words onto his tablet.

“Not bad, kid. You’re quick with your hands,” Brother Bi said with a smile.

“So what do we do now?” asked Pei Jinye, looking around. They had searched the house two or three times, finding only a hand and two legs, but nothing else.

“Wait for a response from the team,” Brother Bi said. Hearing noises outside the door, his expression changed. He peered through the peephole but found nothing.

However, the next second, a clamor of barking sounded, prompting Brother Bi to curse, “Damn, those dogs are too wild; all I did was steal a piece of their meat, and they have to call their friends for a showdown?”

Turning around,

Pei Jinye had already pulled out a Tactical Swinging Stick.

“Hold on,” Brother Bi said hurriedly, “Don’t be impulsive.”

Pei Jinye looked at him questioningly.

Brother Bi pressed the walkie-talkie. “Contact the nearest Night Patrol Department. I am at Northern Ring Road… There’s an incident scene here, and I need assistance to protect the scene evidence.”

After speaking, he turned to Pei Jinye, “Don’t rush into action when something happens. Look for help first… This is a tactic, a life-saving tactic.”

He then chuckled to himself.

Looking through the peephole at the dozen ferocious dogs outside, the Big Black Dog stood conspicuously at the back.

“That little bastard really knows some tactics: first show weakness by giving up meat, then call for backup, and stay at the back ready to flee.”

Brother Bi was amazed.

Pei Jinye was also impressed.

“This dog seems pretty smart. Do police dogs need this kind of savvy?”

“It would suit them with that intelligence, but…” Brother Bi said with a wry smile, “I’m just worried that the obedient police dogs in the squad might turn bad after mingling with it. That black dog has a dark heart.”

Pei Jinye suddenly imagined a scene reminiscent of Infernal Affairs.

He immediately shook his head.

That’s not suitable… wrong thought.

Soon,

The sound of a hovering car landing outside was followed by a gunshot. The evil dogs outside fled in terror, and Brother Bi saw through the peephole that the Big Black Dog ran the fastest.

“This is just too ridiculous. Ridiculousness itself has opened the door, and ridiculousness has come home.”

Opening the door,

Brother Bi began to negotiate with the Night Patrol Members.

After noticing the severed limb, the color drained from the other party’s face.

“Are you certain it’s a body from 30 hours ago?”

Brother Bi got offended at the suggestion, “Would I lie to you?”

The other side laughed bitterly. “That’s not what I meant.”

They had patrolled just last night and hadn’t found any remains, so it was embarrassing that the remains were suddenly discovered by the Investigation Team.

“The incident scene isn’t here… There’s only a faint ripple of Extraordinary Power. Xing Tian concluded that there is a 30% chance the culprit is a Transcendant, and we still need to confirm the identity of the victim… Check if there have been any reports of missing persons recently.”

Brother Bi silently thought for a moment, wondering if there was anything left unsaid.

Suddenly, Pei Jinye spoke, “That Big Black Dog from before might know something. Let it lead the way, and we might discover something.”

Brother Bi was taken aback.

The Night Patrol Members across from him were also slightly stunned.

The Big Black Dog?

But Brother Bi slapped his thigh, “Right, go catch that dog. The severed palm was first found by it. I’ve sent you its picture.”

The other party’s expression changed, and they hurried off to catch the dog.

But Brother Bi stopped Pei Jinye, who also wanted to go out.

Pei Jinye turned to look.

Just to hear Brother Bi say, “You’re coming with me to the back to look for other leads.”

Pei Jinye understood and followed him out.

In the backyard of the house,

Brother Bi pulled out a pack of cigarettes, “Want one?”

Pei Jinye shook his head.

Brother Bi took one out and soon was puffing away, “We’re the Investigation Team, just focus on our tasks. Leave these small matters to the Night Patrol Department; otherwise, what’s the difference between us and them?”

Curses and panic-stricken barking echoed in the distance.

Brother Bi crouched in the corner, silently smoking, his face calm.

Pei Jinye, meanwhile, wandered nearby with his Tactical Swinging Stick in hand.

“Holy shit!”

Suddenly, Brother Bi cursed from behind him.

Pei Jinye hastily looked back.

Brother Bi had been startled by the Big Black Dog that suddenly appeared, the cigarette butt burning his hand, causing him to yelp in pain.

“Woof!”

The Big Black Dog bared its fangs, looking fierce and vicious.

Brother Bi gulped nervously, not daring to make a move, and raised his hands, “Hey, buddy, how about we talk?”

“Woof!”

The Big Black Dog barked menacingly, but in the next moment, a huge rock underfoot exploded, and the dog was taken aback.

Brother Bi was also stunned, instinctively turning his head.

Pei Jinye, as if nothing had happened, swung his stick and kicked aside the shattered stone, staring expressionlessly at the Big Black Dog.

The dog’s tail immediately tucked between its legs.

It turned to flee.

“Shred!”

Pei Jinye swung his iron stick, and the air ripped with a thunderous boom, frightening the dog into whimpering.

“Stay still, lie down!” Pei Jinye shouted.

The Big Black Dog hesitated for a moment, then, whimpering, dropped its head and tail and obediently sat down.

“I’ll be damned,” Brother Bi was astounded, his gaze shifting from the Big Black Dog to Pei Jinye, “I had no idea you had a way with dogs.”

Pei Jinye shook his head.

Brother Bi approached, with an air of bravado, “You little runt, just try barking again!”

The Big Black Dog whimpered as if in defiance.

Brother Bi was unsure of its intent but, seeing something amiss in the dog’s eyes, chose not to get closer, instead threatening fiercely, “Behave yourself, or I’ll stew you into dog meat later!”

The Big Black Dog cursed and barked.

For ten minutes, a man and a dog cursed each other by a twist of fate.

Until Pei Jinye, with gloves on, plucked a strand of hair from the limbs of the deceased, and held it out to the Big Black Dog.

The Big Black Dog’s eyeballs rolled chaotically.

It was unclear if it was considering biting off the hand in front of it.

But in the next moment, its head was slapped by Pei Jinye, seeing stars it whined and looked up.

Pei Jinye spoke calmly, “Smell it, lead me to it.”

The Big Black Dog leaned in, sniffed, and took the opportunity to lick the back of Pei Jinye’s hand.

Brother Bi sneered, “Looks like it’s just a lick dog.”

Pei Jinye slapped it down again, “I told you to smell, not to lick.”

The Big Black Dog whined defensively, but obediently sniffed, then excitedly wagged its tail, getting up and barking at Pei Jinye, yet without the previous baring of teeth, almost as if calling Pei Jinye to follow.

“Let’s go,” Pei Jinye commanded, with Brother Bi following behind.

Brother Bi pressed his walkie-talkie, “The dog has been caught. It’s leading the way now, maintain communication.”

The next second.

The voice of the Night Patrol Department’s team leader came through the walkie-talkie, “Received.”

The Big Black Dog moved its tail chaotically, circling a well surrounded by various weeds.

There was a stone slab above the well, completely sealing it.

Brother Bi skillfully took out an instrument for testing and, after confirming there were no living creatures inside, moved the heavy stone slab weighing seventy to eighty jin.

Then he leaned forward to look down, shining his flashlight, “It’s a bit creepy down there.”

It seemed like he was a bit worried.

Pei Jinye also looked down, “Could this be the crime scene?”

Both men turned back.

The Big Black Dog, which had stealthily retreated to the gate, saw this and whined as it leaped over the wall to escape.

“Damn it!” Brother Bi was stunned, “Has this dog become spiritually awakened?”

Pei Jinye was equally astonished.

Incredible!

“There’s water at the bottom of the well, not sure how deep…” Pei Jinye withdrew his gaze to look at the well, “If this place is the crime scene…”

“Let’s hope that little beast didn’t fool us,” Brother Bi shook his head and went to the gate to look for the Big Black Dog. Just as he established contact with the Night Patrol Department, he gestured to Pei Jinye to leave.

Pei Jinye looked around.

Silently, he activated his Ability.

“Retrogression!”

The dust in the air froze at this moment.

Under the twisted light.

Countless scenes seemed to reverse.

Pei Jinye saw the Big Black Dog’s silhouette moving backwards…

The sky suddenly darkened.

A figure climbed out of the well; the shadow by the well appeared to be startled and turned to flee, but in the next instant, its neck was twisted and broken before it could even scream.

“The murderer is indeed a Transcendent,” Pei Jinye concluded.

He tried to retrogress to find the killer’s whereabouts.

His spiritual power rapidly depleted.

In the last second before cutting off his Ability, he abruptly saw the other party sprinting towards a small alley in the southwest, turning back to glance.

The face seemed pixelated, and Pei Jinye couldn’t see it clearly.

Following the direction the figure had fled through the alley, he found a series of footprints amidst the underbrush.

It was at this moment.

Brother Bi’s cursing voice came from the gate.

Pei Jinye turned to see.

The Big Black Dog, its leash held by a member of the Night Patrol, was brought back, drooping its head, listening to Brother Bi’s grumbling as if playing dead.

“Brother Bi, we’ve got a find,” Pei Jinye waved him over.

Brother Bi immediately dropped the Big Black Dog and hurried over, the Night Patrol Department’s team leader in tow.

“What did you find?”

“There’s a set of footprints here…”

Indeed, everyone saw a series of footprints.

Brother Bi carefully measured the size of the footprints, “Even if this person is a Transcendent, their Ability isn’t that strong, the control over their body is far from perfect, otherwise they wouldn’t have left footprints.”

As he said this, he checked the recorded data.

A team leader from the Night Patrol Department suddenly spoke up, “Suspect, male, 23 years old, with a shorter left leg, weighing about 63 kilograms, about 171 centimeters tall…”

A portrait appeared in his hand.

Brother Bi looked in surprise, “Descriptive Writer?”

The team leader nodded, effectively acknowledging.

“Even if he’s not the murderer, he might know something… I’ll report to our team and start searching,” the team leader said.

Brother Bi nodded and turned to Pei Jinye, “Take note, this Extraordinary Power Ripple originates from a human, suspected of murder, to be handled by the local Night Patrol Department.”

After recording was complete.

Brother Bi looked towards the Night Patrol personnel, “The rest is up to you.”

“Of course.”

The two groups prepared to hand over.

Unexpectedly, the Big Black Dog ran to Pei Jinye’s side, rubbing against him affectionately.

Pei Jinye’s gaze deepened.

The Big Black Dog rubbed even more urgently.

Brother Bi immediately cursed.

“How about you guys take over this dog?” the Night Patrol Department’s team leader suggested hesitantly, not that he didn’t want it, but their limited budget didn’t allow for the upkeep of another dog.

Brother Bi glanced at the Big Black Dog, noticed Pei Jinye’s gaze, and waved his hand, “Fine, you take it to the car. If it dares to urinate in my car, we’re having dog meat for lunch!”

The Big Black Dog turned and whined at him, then eagerly snuggled up to Pei Jinye.

Pei Jinye:

What exactly do you want from me?
